They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I like to apply this same principle to success. Success is what YOU make of it.

Webster Dictionary defines Success as:

success (səkˈses)
noun: the accomplishment of an aim or purpose.
synonyms: prosperity, affluence, wealth, riches, opulence

“the trappings of success”
a person or thing that achieves desired aims or attains prosperity.

“I must make a success of my business”
synonyms: triumph, bestseller, blockbuster, sellout

For some, success means having a big house, fancy car and hundreds of thousands of dollars in the bank. However, for others success simply might mean waking up surrounded  by those they love the most.

But you want to know a secret? There is no right or wrong when defining success. No one’s idea about what makes them successful ranks higher then anyone else.

Success can also change meaning throughout one’s lifetime. Take me for instance. In my early twenties my idea of being successful was graduating from college, getting a good job and making boatloads of money. I dreamed of going to graduate school and becoming a scientist who would do great things in my career.

Fast forward 6 years and my definition of success has changed just a bit. In March of 2016 I gave birth to my daughter in the most unsuccessful way possible. She became stuck in the birthing canal and after a forceful forcep delivery left her paralyzed and ventilator dependent, I was feeling pretty low about where I was in my life.

Not only was I not working, but I was spending my days and nights living in the NICU/PICU. Everyday I would wake up before the sun rose and shuffle through the morning commute to the hospital.

Looking around me, I watched as thousands of people drove their Telsa’s or Audi’s to their 6 figure jobs, all while I was car-less, job-less and hope-less.

One day as I sat bedside next to my daughter, I looked around at all the other sick babies and thought to myself- You know what? You have ALOT to be grateful for! Although the experience of becoming a first time parent was nothing what I had expected, we actually made ALOT of successful stride!

From the very beginning my daughter was defying odds and beating expectations. The doctor’s told us that they searched the medical literature and couldn’t find a single other case of an infant surviving a cervical spinal cord injury at birth.

Not only was my Lilly bug surviving, she was thriving! She successfully  went through spinal fusion surgery at 3 months old. She successfully overcame a blood clot in her liver. She successfully went through rehab, and most importantly, she successfully made it home! And that is a feat that NO ONE thought she would achieve!

So now I look at my life and I feel overwhelmed by success. Today I woke up cuddling next to my husband, took my daughter to therapy, did some laundry and cooked dinner. To some that may seem simple and mundane, but to me it’s exactly where I want to be.

Have you ever felt overwhelmed with stress from work and home life? We’ve all been there before, but what did you do to gain clarity again?

Sometimes life can get so hectic definitely when something tragic happens to really rock the boat. Trust me I know that story all too well.
After my daughters birth injury life changed for my family. All the information with her condition was overwhelming at times and we had a lot of important decisions to make daily. I went from working around the clock to living in the NICU.
With the stress of not working, closing down businesses, losing friends, and fighting for my daughters life, my mind was very dark and cloudy. It was hard to put together clear thoughts or have conversations outside of Doctor talk. When it came to the decisions of Lillian (my daughter) I knew that I had to be at the top of my game.
I would go outside and do breathing exercises as often as I was able to sneak away. This was one of the key factors to my sanity. I might not of been operating at my highest level for anything else in life but I was laser focused on making the best decisions for Lillian’s
quality of life.
The fact that Lillian is mechanically ventilated to breathe only makes me that much more grateful to be able to breathe. Talking hospital talk on the regular and learning about CO2 levels being too high or too low had me finally in tune with how important our breathing truly is.
There are so many health benefits from deep breathing and variations of breathing exercises.
To list a few…
 IMG_5287

Releases Tension
When were feeling anxious, scared or stressed it constricts our muscles causing tension. By taking 5 to 10 minutes to really concentrate on taking some nice deep breaths you give your body the appropriate amount of oxygen to release tension and ease the mind.
Releases Toxins
70% of our bodies toxins are released through breathing including co2. Taking deep breaths every so often through out the day can help keep your body toxin free.
Enhances Clarity
By practicing different breathing exercises you are oxygenating the brain to help release anxiety levels. Take purposeful breaths to help relax the body bringing clarity and insights to the mind.

Breathing Exercise

Or if you’re like most people and you want instant gratification, I’ll share my simple exercise I’ve been doing for years in highly intense situations, like my daughters birth.
I prefer to be outside so I can breathe in fresh air, but I know that opportunity is not always there for us when we need it most. Either way this is simple and has saved my life a time or two at the least.
Relax your shoulder and neck raising your chest and take 10 deep and meaningful breaths. Now the trick is all you can think about is your breathing. Every time something interrupts your thoughts you have to restart your count back at 1. The key is that you have to take the 10 deep breaths in a row thinking of only your breaths and relaxing.
Sounds to simple to be true? Stop what your doing right now and try it. You can thank me later.

Do you ever find yourself caught up in the hustle and bustle of your daily life? I know I personally do. Take this article for instance. My husband and I have delegated responsibilities for Chance To Inspire’s blog. I write the blogs on health, fitness and parenting, while he write the blogs on business, personal development as well as weekly videos.

After staying up until 2 in the morning curating this article to repost on our blog, I told my husband that all he needed to do was write a little excerpt and it would be ready to post at 7 am. Upon awakening this morning, I went out to the living room to see what my husband had written and found him knee-deep in his journal finishing a homework assignment for his life coach.

Needless to say, I ended up adding the finishing touches to the article. Even in our own lives, we struggle to find clarity in our day to day activities. Sometimes we need to take 10 minutes to recenter ourselves, organize the chaos, and streamline it into our daily life.

Here are 30 Questions that can help guide you to a better understanding about what it is in your own life that can help you have a clearer vision. Spend some time in meditation as you work through these questions, and see what goals unfold before you.

Gain Clarity on How You Want to Feel

I like to start with feelings, because feelings are what drive our actions, which will fuel our results. And feelings can be developed by our thoughts and our mindset. Feelings are powerful tools that can help us develop the life we want.

1. What is the emotion that you enjoy feeling the most?
2. What emotion helps you produce the best work?
3. What kind of feelings do you want to experience in the mornings to start your day?
4. What emotions are least helpful to you and cause you to make poor decisions?
5. What negative emotions do you find beneficial to experience at times (stress, fear, nervousness, guilt, anxiety, anger)?
6. How do you want to feel at the end of your day?
7. How do you want to feel toward the people in your key relationships (husband, kids, friends, boss)?
8. What emotions are you currently feeling on a regular basis that aren’t serving you?
9. How do you want to feel about the work you do?

IMG_5270

Develop Clarity Over What you Want to Do

Next, we want to consider our journey. You can live your entire life without a plan and a vision for the future, simply wake up each day and react to whatever circumstances life decides to throw at you. Or you can choose to create a plan for life, to use the skills and the blessings God has given to you and make the most out of your circumstances. This takes vision and clarity, focus and effort, but the result is a life well lived. God calls us to be good stewards, not just of our money, but all of our resources, including each moment of our lives.

10. What do you want from your life?
11. What do you want to do with your kids before they are grown?
12. What things do you want your children to learn and experience?
13. What are you hoping to accomplish this year, in five years, in your lifetime?
14. What kind of lifestyle would you like to have?
15. What are the things that you want that you already have?
16. What dreams would you like to fulfill and when?
17. What new things would you like to learn?
18. How would you like to grow personally in the next few years?
19. How would you like to give and serve in the future?
20. What kinds of things would you like to get involved in?
21. What are some things you want to make sure you do every single day?
22. What would you like to experience with your kids on a regular basis?
23. Are you hoping to develop or grow a side business?
24. What are your career goals?
25.How would you like your relationship with your husband to grow?
26. Would you like to spend more time praying and studying the Word?
27. What people would you like to spend more time with?
28. What hobbies and self-care activities would you like to participate in?
29. Are there any habits that you would like to develop?
30. Why? for all of the questions.
Now take a minute and read through all of the things you have written down during this brainstorm and think back over the last few weeks. Are you on the right track? Are you regularly doing things that will lead you to the life you’re trying to aim for? Do you regularly experience the feelings and emotions you’d like to feel throughout your day? Will the things you are doing today lead to the plans you have for tomorrow? What should you stop doing so you can start doing something better? A great future is built by small everyday steps. If your actions are not pointing you in the direction of your dreams, then you should change course or change your dream.

After doing my own work to remember where it is I’m trying to go, I’ve recreated some systems and routines that fit better with the new schedules we have for this season of life. I’ve re-energized my focus by reminding myself of where I’m trying to go and why. I’ve pulled out some things that weren’t leading me to the life I want to live and added in somethings that will.

I start each day with a peaceful morning routine and a scheduled out to do list. I’ve put in place a whole lot of margin and empty space in my life to simply enjoy. We aren’t meant to fly through life at the speed of light. Each day is a gift to be enjoyed and used as an act of worship to our Maker.

The Time Is Now

Written by: Chance Forman

NOW is your chance to inspire! Some of you have been following my story on social media pages, but for some this video might be the first of you ever hearing about me. A little history and the reason NOW is my chance to inspire others to live a better life.

IMG_5135

My daughter Lillian suffered a traumatic spinal cord injury at birth as well as some other pre labor complications. The result left her a quadrapligic on a ventilator to breathe and almost 8 months in critical condition in 3 different hospitals in the Bay Area. We’re finally home and settling in just great. We were fortunate enough to have a savings and some assets to help us get by while we were unable to work and fighting for Lilly’s life.
Now that were home I have a lot of time to think and with the new life that my family has been given it had me asking myself a lot of questions. What was I working so hard for? What are my real goals in life? I knew what I wanted Lillian’s life to be like before she was ever born and that’s why I was working my ass off and taking the calculated risks to give her what I thought would be the “perfect” childhood. The bigger question I was forgetting to ask was, “Is this the life that I truly want to live?” Am I making an impact or a difference in the world like I always said I would as a kid?

After all these months in the hospital praying over Lillian, the sleepless nights and restless days, the peaks and valleys of her overcoming every medical obstacle known to man. Something really resignatated with me and that was all the people from family, friends, friends of friends, to complete strangers that sent their blessings, cards, presents, donated funds; all these people showed so much kindness. I realized that the world is not nearly as dark of a place as the media and the news lead us to believe.

IMG_5139The thoughts and prayers keep pouring in by the day. My heart is telling me that this is the way for me to give back. I was at an all time low after being home for a few weeks, fighting depression and gaining weight. I received an email to get a free book about changing my habits, so I said what the heck and ordered the book. Thank you Dean Graziosi because that book started the journey I’m beginning right NOW! Even if I only inspire one person a day for the rest of my life, then I’ve made an impact that defines a life worth living.

NOW is the start of a movement.

NOW is our chance to INSPIRE someone, anyone and everyone.

3 Simple Habits

Written by: Chance Forman

Its already almost the second quarter of the year. Wow, where has the time gone?
I know for most of us New Years resolutions have started to slip away and become forgotten about. We were going to lose weight, or get a jump start on our summer beach body, maybe even start reading a book once a week.
We’ve all been there, but I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to wait till next year, Monday, or even tomorrow to get started again.
No matter what your “excuse” is, the most common being “I don’t have time”, those are simply what we just called them..
An EXCUSE!
IMG_5221
Wake up earlier, stay off social media, less time watching tv, prep your meals… these are just a few examples of ways to save time. I have another piece I’m working on that’s about saving time.
These are such simple habits that you could start right now, in fact one of them you’re doing now and didn’t even know it. If you implement these 3 simple habits and stay consistent, your fresh start will set you up for a more successful life of abundance.
3 Simple Habits to Success!

1. Sweat Everyday.

By sweating everyday I’m not even saying you have to be a gym rat. For those of you that are “too busy” it could be as easy as doing 100 push ups and 100 body squats before you hop in the shower. I like to say a minimum of 30 minutes of activity daily but we can start small.
2. Read More
Read more is a broad term. I personally read for knowledge not fiction, but I know most people read fiction to escape from reality for a bit. What I mean by reading more is to pick up a book or read an interesting article rather than turning on the t.v for background noise. Educate yourself instead of filling your brain with useless information.
3. Hustle Harder

Hustle harder means just about anything we want to do, someone is already doing it. The ones that have already succeeded at what you want to do are great models to build off of, but if you want the same results or better you need to work harder and smarter.

FullSizeRender-2
Apply these 3 simple habits to your daily life and I promise you will only get better.
What are you waiting for?
Start now… Chance To Inspire will be right here when you get back with more inspirational content coming daily.

How To Overcome Fear

Written by: Chance Forman

FEAR is our worst enemy.  It’s the culprit behind every excuse we choose to make not to re-adjust our daily routines.  We’re all victim to FEAR – from the highest paid CEO in the game- to the stay at home parents.  It acts as a wedge slowly driving deeper and deeper until our dreams finally start to fade away simply because they seem so far away.  No one stopped you from achieving your goals.  Life may have lead you down a different path, but every obstacle you faced along the way was an opportunity with a front line of struggle for you to learn from.

As I stated in my last post, there is no better time than NOW to fight for the life you’ve always dreamed of or the life that you know you and your family deserve.  FEAR is the only thing holding you back.  With words and phrases like “I cant,” “I’m not that smart,” or “I
just don’t have the time” fueling our minds, no wonder we’re scared.
IMG_4703.JPG

The first thing I’m going to ask you to do is go ahead and take phrases like that out of your vocabulary.

Personally, I was so scared to ever get
started on this journey.  I’ve been telling my mom since I was a young boy that I wanted to be a motivational speaker when I find the successful life I’m chasing.

FEAR of not being successful enough and not having any experience in public speaking was holding me back.

After the incident with my daughter’s birth (you can learn more from my social media and website), I knew that it was all for a reason.  I lost many nights’ sleep wondering what the bigger picture was. Why did this happen to me or to my family?  It didn’t take long for me to realize this didn’t happen too us but for us.

Lillian was put here and survived through everything because she has so much to teach the world.  She is obviously too young to be writing a blog or posting videos about her struggle and how she overcomes anything thrown her way, therefore Chance To Inspire was born.  She inspires me to be the best person I can be, to change my daily habits and routines, and make an impact in the world.

IMG_5156

Am I scared to put my life story and all the hurt and pain of her birth online?  You bet your ass I am.  I’ve never had social media before this; I’ve always thought that it took away from real human interaction.

As I studied diligently about how I could use our story to motivate others, I quickly learned that it would be impossible to reach the amount of people I want to without it.  FEAR was the only thing holding me back.

After reading Motivation Manifesto by Brendon Burchard, I decided to conquer my FEARS and go for it.  Who cares what the haters will say?  I have a mission.  I refuse to let FEAR of rejection or ridicule stop me from completing my mission.  If Lillian can overcome hydrops, spinal fusion, a tracheostomy, etc., then I can easily overcome FEAR.
My homework for you is to make FEAR your bitch.  Take all those worries of what others will say or that you’re not good enough and stuff them in the trash.  NOW is the time to put FEAR in a chokehold and let your inner HERO come out.  I know you have it in you! After all, I’m doing it and I’m no better than you.  I’m just your average guy stepping up to the podium to inspire others to live a better life.  FEAR is no match to your inner HERO.
IMG_4510Watch my weekly videos, share my website, and follow me on social media.

NOW is the start of a movement.

NOW is our chance to INSPIRE someone, anyone, and everyone.
